In the fall of 2010 the towns of Canadice and Richmond proposed suspending the Aquatic Weed Harvesting Program (AWMP) for 2011. The HVA did not support this recommendation and developed an HVA position on Weed Harvesting. Ontario County developed a questionnaire that was sent to all lakefront residents, with the results summarized in AWMP Survey Results. In January 2011 the decision was made to continue the AWMP during the summer of 2011.

Weed harvesting has been done on Honeoye Lake since 1985. From 1985 – 2004 a single harvester operated from late June to mid September. Based on the recommendation of Princeton Hydro and the support of the towns of Canadice and Richmond a second harvester was added in 2005.
