Honeoye Lake Watershed Management Plan
Completed
The Honeoye Lake Watershed Management Plan has been completed and was
approved by the Honeoye Lake Watershed Taskforce (HLWTF) at its October 2007
meeting. It is the result of a comprehensive investigation of steps needed to
protect Honeoye Lake and its watershed. It includes over 70 different action
items to protect lake and watershed waters due to actual and potential sources
of pollution. Its creation was managed by the HLWTF which includes
representatives from all towns in the watershed (Richmond, Canadice, Naples,
Springwater, Naples, South Bristol, and Bristol) using paid consultants and an
extensive volunteer effort.
Two public information
meetings were held, one on August 22, 2005 and another on July 24, 2007, to
allow public comment on draft versions of the plan. All comments received were addressed in the final watershed
plan.
The document functions as a comprehensive plan of action or road map to
protect Honeoye Lake well into the future and was made possible through an
Environmental Protection Fund grant received in 2005 from the Division of
Coastal Resources of New York State Department of State. Having such a watershed plan, written to state guidelines, will enhance
the opportunity of the towns in the watershed to obtain grants from New York
State to implement the action items included in the plan.
The watershed plan is
available at: http://www.co.ontario.ny.us/planning/honeoye_lk.htm.
In addition, in near future there will also be copies in the Honeoye Public
Library and all watershed town halls for public viewing.
