Honeoye
Lake VHS Update
The New York State Department of Conservation Region 8
Fisheries Department sent Honeoye Lake fish samples to Cornell late last fall to
be tested for the VHS virus. In
March they received the good news that the Honeoye Lake fish samples tested
negative for the VHS virus.
Please read the latest information on NYSDEC web site on
the VHS virus situation at www.dec.ny.gov/animals/25328.html.
You will find detailed information on what we can do to try and prevent
the VHS virus from invading Honeoye Lake.
If you observe a
large number of dead fish, please contact the DEC Region 8 office and ask for
the Bureau of Fisheries to report the issue.
Since Conesus Lake and Skaneateles Lake are already infected by the VHS virus, only constant care by all of us will keep the VHS virus out of Honeoye Lake.
